CDA Kid

Regent Barbara Michael of CDA Court Regina Coeli #2063, Baton Rouge, LA, recently presented a $250 check to the 2008 Baton Rouge Diocesan CDA Kid, Olivia C.
Olivia, who is 7 1/2 years old, has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She lives in Baton Rouge with her parents, Pete and Gina C.

The fund donated by the Catholic Daughters were made possible by a grant awarded them by the St Jude Men's Club of St Jude the Apostle Church. They will use the funds to assist them in their travels to St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis for Olivia's treatments.

DEDICATION of HABITAT HOUSE

Dedication of the Habitat House in Cameron was held Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 10:00am. This has been a long awaited and much anticipated event. A reception followed the dedication.
The new owners of the house is Cecil and Leslie Clark.

The 52nd Biennial National CDA Convention held in Albuquerque, New Mexico is over and for many will be a beautiful lasting memory. It was a very successful convention and quite possibly the "largest" convention yet. There were approximately 1100 delegates and alternates attending. We worked on baseboard, shelving the closets and floors. We worked with a group of high school students from Rockport High in Theills, New York. These students devoted their time during their "spring break" to come south and work with Habitat.

State Fundraiser Raffle

La State Court is having another raffle to raise funds to benefit another Habitat for Humanity House. The prize is this beautiful framed 19 1/2 X 23 1/2 oil painting -- Autumn Landscape of Bayou Grosse Tete, painted and graciously donated by: Mrs. Viola Aberly from Court Immaculata # 503--Lafayette. Drawing will be November 22, 2008. Raffle sheets are going out in the next State Regent's Newsletter. Be sure to make as many copies of the sheet to give out to your members. $1.00 per chance. Deadline for turning in money and raffle sheets will be November 1, 2008.

The National Membership Drive: "All Aboard the CDA Train," is going on. How many members have boarded the CDA Train in your parish? If none, please get on track and start filling the seats on the train and please do not let the passengers who are on the CDA Train get off. Remember retain and recruit. We want all seats filled on every CDA Train.

The State Board is challenging local courts to our annual membership drive: The CDA Train will be departing Oct 1, 2007 and will run to March 31, 2008. In an effort to fulfill this goal, the state court has increased the prize incentives for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place. Don't be late at the gate or you will miss out on a great opportunity to share ideas, make new friends, learn new skills, and help your "Circle of Love" grow. Our mission is to have each court hold a membership drive at your churches to recruit new members into the CDA organization. So, let's work hard to fill the empty seats and help our CDA organization to grow.

Update on Habitat House

Joyce Stein took a trip to Cameron to check on the latest progress on the Habitat House. Good News...the outside of the house is just about complete!! There was a group completing the banisters on the porch and steps. The electrician were running wires on the inside and was almost done. The plumbers are scheduled to come in and then insulation, sheetrock and mud. Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can paint and do some finishing work. The weather had alot to do with the delay of this project, but with the inside left to do, hopefully the weather should not interfere.

DELEGATES ATTENDS 51st BIENNIAL NATIONAL CONVENTION

Nearly 900 Catholic Daughters from across the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Guam attended the CDA’s 51st Biennial National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These included national, state and local Catholic Daughter leaders, members, and their guests, clergy, spouses, friends and supporters. From Louisiana, 42 attended. Congratulations to Vickie Broussard, who was elected to serve another two-year term as National Director.

The five new national officers elected by the delegates at the Convention to serve a two-year term are: National Regent, Claudia R. Bosch; National Regent-Elect (newly-created position) Libby Ramirez; First Vice National Regent, Joanne Tomassi; Second Vice National Regent, Anne Nelson; National Secretary-Treasurer, Shirley Seyfried.

The Diocesan Installation of CDA Officers was held at the Immaculate Conception Catheral on Saturday, June 10, 2006, starting with 10:00am mass. Each group of officers were led up to the altar by the District Deputy to receive the oath of their respective office.

Court Rayne # 844 host the Diocesan Installation of CDA Officers, Saturday, June 24, 2006, starting with 9:00am mass at St Joseph, with Rev. William Ruskoski, pastor and Rev. Cedric Sonnier, Diocesan Spiritual Advisor. The local officers were greeted by the newly install JCDA (junior daughters). The Fourth Degree Knights stood as Honor Guards. Following the mass the officers went into the St Joseph Parish Center for workshop/training regarding the duties of their respective office, conducted by the LA State Officers. A delicious lunch was prepared and served by Court Rayne. After lunch the group was given a Membership/Leadership presentation by Theresa Clement, Past State Regent.
